Tudini Restaurant: Our Story
Grandfather Vittorio Tudini, born in 1924, came from Cesariano, a hamlet of Montereale in the province of L'Aquila, a small, harsh, and extremely poor mountain village. At that time, the First World War had devastated the villages, plunging farming families into misery. It was after this period that fathers and elder brothers would leave for America, working on building railways or in the mines.
At just 12 years old, Vittorio Tudini was forced to move to Rome, where he worked in hotel establishments that had become strongholds of German residences, such as the "Eden" and the "Excelsior".
Together with his cousins, he thus began his adventure marked by hardship and poverty.
At only 21, after the end of the Second World War, he opened a small tavern on Via Condotti and another at Villa Borghese – La Casina Valadier – but they soon failed.
Our country was in a phase of reconstruction; nothing stopped him, and driven by his boldness, he decided to start again several times, opening new inns with kitchens — little jewels he was proud of.
The current premises at Via Cavour 52 were opened in 1969, between Monti and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore; even today, the business maintains its integrity, its historical values, its "furnishings", and the original structure given to it at its opening.
Time has passed, and we have now reached the third generation of the Tudini family.
Grandfather, always supported by his daughters, known as "the twins", Alessandra and Paola, carried forward this life project with ambition and boldness.
Cuisine and pâtisserie, simple and genuine flavours, quality and authenticity make this establishment a place where ancient traditions continue to thrive.
